Government & Politics

YCDC "GAP"

Washington, DC is the seat of national politics and government. As young professionals living in our nation’s capital and working in or alongside the consulting industry, we constantly find ourselves at the intersection of politics, government, and business. YCDC recognizes government and political consultants and their colleagues as members of the larger consulting industry and community.

Washington is home to countless firms that specialize in one or more areas of political and government consulting. Political consulting does not differ greatly from traditional management consulting. Like traditional consultants, political consultants work with their clients to develop a strategy that meets their goals – for example, winning an election or gaining support for a policy issue. Today, “political consulting” pertains to a broad variety of careers including, but not limited to, campaign consulting, media consulting, polling, public affairs, and fundraising.  A political consultant’s clients can be candidates for elected office, issue groups, or any organization attempting to impact public policy or government affairs.

YCDC welcomes members from all political affiliations. Further, YCDC recognizes many consultants work in and for government agencies in a mission-oriented capacity. Our political- and government- focused events are aimed at our organization's overall goals of uniting young consultants, fostering professional development, and enriching our community.

YCDC members with careers in politics and government include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Political/campaign consultants
  • Media consultants
  • Congressional staffers
  • Public affairs officers
  • Government consultants
  • Pollsters
  • Fundraisers
  • Vendors (website designers, telecommunications experts, etc.)
  • Government employees
